Evenings in southern Tenerife are more varied than the resort's reputation suggests. Within a short taxi ride you can find a theatrical dinner show, a beach club with a DJ, a medieval jousting tournament, and a strip of bars that does not really get going until midnight.
The trick is knowing which is which before you commit an evening to it.
Dinner shows
The Scandal dinner show is the polished end of the spectrum — a proper production with dinner served through it. It works well as a first or last night: everybody is in one place, nobody has to make decisions, and it suits a mixed-age group in a way that a club never will.
Medieval Adventure is the other side of the same idea — jousting, a themed banquet, and food eaten with your hands. Children love it. Book it for them, not for you.
History of Music sits between the two: a live run through familiar songs rather than a spectacle.
Beach clubs
The Monkey Beach Club is the best-known daytime-into-evening venue on this coast. It starts as a beach club and becomes a party as the light goes, which makes it a good bridge between an afternoon and a night out rather than a destination in itself.
Go in the late afternoon and let it turn into the evening around you. Arriving at eleven misses the point.
On the water
The Utopia boat party is an evening in its own right rather than a warm-up. It is loud, sociable and unashamed. If that is the holiday you came for, it is the best version of it on this coast.
What actually needs booking ahead
This is the part that catches people out. In peak weeks — school holidays, Christmas, Easter — the following regularly sell out well in advance:
- Dinner shows, particularly at weekends
- Boat parties, which run on fixed dates rather than daily
- Anything on New Year's Eve, which goes months ahead
Bars and clubs, by contrast, need no planning at all. If your evening is flexible, keep it flexible — but pin down the things that have a fixed capacity.
A note on timing
Spain eats late and Tenerife is no exception. A restaurant that looks dead at eight will be full at ten. If you turn up for dinner at half past six you will have the place to yourself, which is either a bonus or a warning sign depending on what you were hoping for.
Clubs do not fill until well after midnight. Pace the evening accordingly.
Getting home
Taxis are plentiful along the resort strip but thin out late in the outlying areas, and the walk back along an unlit coastal road is not the one to attempt in the dark. If your evening is going to run late and you are staying outside the centre, arrange the return leg before you go out.
